Various measuring methods are available to the textile industry to determine yarn hairiness.  Since 1984 Zweigle has supplied the textile industry with the ever popular models G 565, G 566, and the latest generation G 567 Hairiness Testers.  This technology enables the user to detect and sort fibers sticking out in individual length classes, and consequently is an important instrument to evaluate the short-hairiness (l mm and 2 mm in length) of a yarn, and the long-hairiness (3 mm and more), which is disturbing in subsequent processing steps.

In close cooperation with M/s SUESSEN, our sales partners, and yarn manufacturers throughout the world yarn samples have been collected and comprehensive testing has been carried out for quite some time.  Under standard textile laboratory conditions a database has been established of all test results using G 566 and G 567 hairiness tester models equipped with OPTO-CHECK technology.

Data collection for the Zweigle Hairiness Standard is an ongoing process. All significant yarn parameters will be taken into consideration and classified into different parameters including: Yarn count, material, fiber length, twist, compact yarn, conventional ring spun yarn, open end yarns, and subsequent production processes.

The Zweigle Hairiness Standards can be downloaded online directly to any Zweigle Hairiness Tester outfitted with OPTO-CHECK for an accurate comparison to the Standard with signature printout.  Should a tester not be available please fill out the questionnaire and a complementary copy will be forwarded to you.
