F 460 Stick-Slip Friction Tester

 

Quick and practical determination of the gliding properties of fibers at slivers and rovings  

  • furnishes important, reproducible values on the gliding properties of the fiber material
  • tests the homogeneity of fiber substance, preparing agent and fiber crimping

The Stick- Slip Friction Tester F 460 serves for continuous measurement of the gliding properties of slivers and rovings. It enables both the spinners as well as fiber manufacturers to make statements on fiber quality. This testing unit does not simply represent the replacement of the "Resistiro Rex" which has been used for decades in many spinning mills all around the world, but in addition even provides important and reproducible values in connection with the gliding  properties of the fiber material in the various stages of production.

Previous testing systems based on static or dynamic measurement simply offered limited or obsolete evaluation methods or insufficient statements due to limited test capacities. Now it is possible to test slivers and rovings dynamically. The advantage of this new test method is the almost unlimited test capacity, irrespective of the make- up of the test material.

The results obtained with the Stick- Slip Friction Tester F 460 help to optimize the spinning process in ring spinning and OE- rotor spinning and to guarantee a constant product quality. 

The system according to which the F 460 is working, is based on well known and practical facts in staple- fiber spinning: The evenness of a yarn is directly dependent on the drafting behavior of the fiber material and therefore an important criterion for its quality parameters. Drafting exerts a force on the fiber which the latter opposes through friction. These frictional forces are determined in particular by fiber substance, the preparing agent applied and fiber crimping.

The Stick- Slip Friction Tester F 460 helps to determine the homogeneity of fiber substance, the preparing agent applied and the fiber crimping.

The Stick- Slip Friction Tester F 460 helps to check the homogeneity of especially these a.m. Para-meters. This dynamic measurement of fiber properties can be applied in the following areas:

  • Incoming inspection of synthetic fibers by tests on card slivers (spinning mills, non woven fabrics).
  • Resist treatment of rovings.
  • Control of carding equipment.
  • Conclusions regarding processing behavior and yarn quality by testing slivers of various fiber materials.

Technical Information:

The Stick- Slip Friction Tester F 460 consists of a testing unit for data logging and a linked- up PC system which processes and manages the data as required by the various fields of application. With its flexible DIN ISO 9001 compatible environment the F 460 is tailored for smooth integration in modern quality assurance systems of the spinning industry.

The two main elements the F 460 consists of are: 2 sets of drawing rollers and a load cell. The fiber material is drawn through the drawing rollers under a preselected drafting force and at a preselected speed. Additionally the roller setting is adjustable up to 2.5- times of the fiber length - dependent on the average staple length.

The load cell is located in the middle between both sets of drawing rollers and registers the load changes caused by drafting via a dancing roller. The resulting load received by the load cell is an equivalent to the fiber stick- slip force.

Pre- tests in various spinning mills and fiber producing mills have proven the wide range of use and application of the Stick- Slip Friction Tester F 460.

 

Technical Data:

The Stick-Slip Friction Tester F 460 consists of a combination of a mechanical transport unit and a PC for data collection and evaluation.

Measuring principle:

Continuous measurement of sliver/roving tension as a measure of drafting resistance at a defined draft between two transport rollers. Depending on the test material (sliver/roving, long/short staple) the distance between the two sets of transport rollers are under constant pressure by pneumatic force.

Draft: 

1,3/1,5/1,8/2,0 - adjustable by exchanging the toothed gear.

Sliver/roving speed:
 

Preselectable in four steps via PC - 5/10/15/20 m/min.
