|
Optimum sizing of single and plied yarns by means of comparative abrasion testing.

The
Zweigle G 552 Abrasion Tester offers simplification and also reassurance for the processor of greige yarns. Its results enable the processor to apply chemical or mechanical treatment to
optimize the abrasion resistance of single and plied yarns.
The
G 552 Abrasion Tester
-
objectively evaluates and compares sizing treatments;
-
helps to establish the correct size recipe;
-
reduces warp
breakages; facilitates optimum adjustment of the sizing machine;
-
detects any damage caused by bleaching or yarn treatment.
Simple to use Up to twenty threads are placed in the abrasion tester and pre-tension is applied; usually 20 g or 30 g per thread. Everything else proceeds automatically: An abrasion roller covered with emery paper traverses in constant rhythmic motion and with constant pressure at right angles to the direction at which the test threads are tensioned. The abrasion roller continuously rotates about its own axis so that the abrasive action is not impaired by abraded yarn residue in the emery paper. At each end of the roller traverse the yarns are lifted off the abrasion roller so as to prevent irregular wear. Once a thread has been abraded through, its tensioning weight drops down to activate the electronic analysis module. It is easy to change the emery paper: At the touch of a key the traversing motor and the abrasion roller are relocated in the correct starting position.
Computer-controlled logging and analysis of the results. The G 552 Abrasion Tester has been combined with a PC running Windows. The computer not only controls the test procedure, it automatically logs the yarn breaks. Every yarn break is recorded by the computer with its position in the yarn array in the tester (1 to 20) and the number of abrasion strokes to break. At the same time a database is built up in which the means of the individual tests are stored. It is thus easy to make repeated comparisons with earlier tests.

Fig 2:
Monitor display during the test. The display concludes: the input
data, the total number of abrasion strokes (traverses or cycles) and (yellow
boxes) number of cycles to break for each thread tested (1-20).
As many as four different single/plied yarn samples can be tested at the same time
1. The operator can decide the point at which to terminate the test. For example if the end-point chosen is two thread breaks, the test ends after the second thread break. Each of the thread breaks is recorded individually. 2. Only one test run is required to test up to four different single/plied yarns (e.g. with different rates of size application). The twenty test threads can be divided into two or four groups. Moreover, it is possible at the same time to specify the end-point for each test group, the number of thread breaks at which the tests are to cease. For example: if four groups are formed, each with an end-point of two thread breaks, the machine will only stop when the second thread in the last group has broken. A total of eight yarn positions and eight abrasion cycle numbers are displayed on the monitor: namely the data for the first two yarns broken in each of the four yarn groups.
The results are displayed on the monitor and can be printed out together with thread grouping and descriptive information such as
fiber type, pre-tensioning weights adopted, date and time. At the same time a database is built up in which the means of the individual tests are stored. It is thus easy to make repeated comparisons with earlier tests. This is a vital advantage that overcomes time-wasting lists and ‘paper mountains’.

Special Model
|
|
For testing sewing threads and man-made
fiber yarns, an abrasion bar with hard-alloy edge can be supplied on request instead of the emery paper abrasion roller. |
On request, we are able to deliver the following special sets of weights: 10/40/50/60/75/80/100/150 g. |
Database It is a simple matter to retrieve input from earlier series of tests from the database. This facility spares you time-consuming printouts and ‘paper mountains’, keeping you constantly up-to-date. |
