The fibres are subjected to shrinkage in hot air
at a given temperature or in boiled water. The resultant changes
in length measured by the travelling microscope are expressed as
the percentage shrinkage in relation to the initial lengths.
The instrument is supplied with three shrinkage testing
cylinders each equipped with 10 fixed fibre clamps, a dipping
hook, tweezers, and a black velvet board.
