The F 460 Stick-Slip Friction Tester developed and introduced by Zweigle Textilprüfmaschinen GmbH & Co. KG, Reutlingen meets all the specifications called for today in apparatuses of this kind. Slivers and rovings of all kinds can be tested, with four draft ratios, adjustable by change wheels, continuously variable drafting length zone (roller spacings) and four different testing velocities. A further improvement is the facility for linking to a PC system for control, data recording and results analysis.
Series of measurements have shown, that meaningful informative results may be obtained on card slivers and drafter slivers, as well as rovings with this tester. It is suitable for cotton, man-made fibres (short- and long-staple fibres), wool and blendings.
The measurements showed that specific standard settings can be achieved, depending on the purpose for which the apparatus is being used. As the results demonstrate, the important measuring values are the mean of the drafting force and the coefficient of variation. The latter provides important information on any stick-slip transition phenomena that may be present, but which should be checked more closely by appropriate objective tests.
The F 460 Stick-Slip Friction Tester may be used by any man-made fibre producers for optimum adjustment of crimp and spin-finish and also by producers of additives, lubricants and finishes for optimisation of their products, and equally by the spinner right through to the checking of roving twist.
The complete report about the measuring series, the history and the principles about the methods of determining cohesion and drafting forces and conclusions would be an important information to solve problems. This report (16 pages, 12 graphs) can be downloaded:
